In reply to Your Excellency's despatch No.5883/
12, I have the honour to inform you that no instruct-
ions have been issued to His Majesty's Consuls on
the subject of the registration and protection of
British subjects of Chinese descent since 1904,
except that on receipt, through the Foreign Office
of a copy of your despatch of July 29th last to the
Colonial Office, I instructed all Consular Officers
in China to furnish you with monthly lists of all
persons from Hongkong registered as British subjects.
Copy of this despatch is enclosed herewith.
